Yesterday I got that call we’ve all imagined… but never actually thought would happen.

My phone rang… it was my boyfriend’s ring tone, but there was a woman’s voice at the other end of the phone.

And I knew.  That scene I’d imagined each time he was late picking me up, or when he called at a weird hour unfolded in front of me.

“There has been an accident:

Ryan is in the hospital.”

But he got out of the hospital the same day.

For a propane flare burn he was really lucky.

When I was driving his burnt little body around the city later that night… this beautiful music comforted me and lulled him to sleep.
